Portslade Town Hall Relaunch

Grand Opening of Portslade Town Hall

Victoria Road
Wednesday 11th June 2014

Many thanks to all who came to this event, in particular to Cllr. Brian and Mrs. Fitch, the Mayor and Mayoress of Brighton, David Houlgate for setting up his wonderful Compton Theatre Organ and to the Rev. Michael Maine for giving us a short demonstation of its capabilities, a surprise to many I think.

Special thanks must also go to the volunteers of the Purple People Kitchen who provided such an array of refreshments for the occasion.

I was particulary pleased at meeting up with so many former employees of the Ronuk Ltd. factory which once stood behind the building and whose recreational facility the Hall once was. It's gratifying to know that the Main Hall will now be known as the Ronuk Hall, the whole building's original name

As part of the re-launch ceremony, the Mayor, Cllr Brian Fitch, planted a Cherry Tree in the Community Garden to the east side of the building. The tree was generously donated by the Maybury Garden Centre in Portslade, for which we thank them.

I would be pleased to hear from anyone who can identify any of the young ladies pictured below. My guess is that it was taken in either '58 or '59 on the Ronuk Summer Outing to Southsea. Also, I would be pleased to hear from Ruth Burgess and her friend Brenda, who as 17year olds, worked on the Colron line at Ronuk and who in 2011, contacted the present makers of Ronseal in Sheffield
